Stories Of Care Founder, Sophie Willan, wins Royal Television Society Award
Stories Of Care Founder, Sophie Willan, has won a Royal Television Society Programme Award for ‘Best Scripted Comedy’ with her sitcom, Alma’s Not Normal (Expectation For BBC).
She triumphed over Bloods (Roughcut Television in association with Sky Studios for Sky One) and We Are Lady Parts (Working Title Television, part of Universal International Studios, for Channel 4).
When selecting the winner, the judges said of the show:
“It’s laugh out loud funny but at times profound and heart breaking, with wonderful writing throughout.”
Sophie was also nominated for Best Comedy Performance (Female).
Through Alma’s Not Normal, Sophie continues to develop the core missions of Stories Of Care; by offering a bitingly funny and unflinching take on class, sexuality, mental health and substance abuse. She celebrates Working Class women, Care Leavers and Sex Workers, and shows complex female characters, dealing with the hands they’ve been dealt while doggedly pursing their dreams.
